Research on Short Films
My short film idea is based on the concept of 'stalking' and 'obsession'. It's stemmed on the idea of myself wanting to do an interpretive dance music video with a connecting story. I have quite a fixation on serial killers and stalkers which has influenced my thought ideas as I usually connect all my original thoughts to some sort of serial killer obsessive nature. I love dance, it's a form of emotional expression and can communicate very powerful emotions. This is evident in some performances I've watched or music videos I've seen, which is why I love to use it, as I am an artist personally and the expressive art form is important to me as it's the thought provoking artwork that changes and shapes the minds/ emotions of the human.
I came across a website called 'Short Film of the Week' and it's collected hundreds of short films globally for viewers to watch. Some that have caught my eye are:
This is a movie about a man who turns into the tooth fairy unexpectedly as he follows a little girl and her mother home. The mother is a mean character suggesting the child has a bad childhood as she is forgotten at the school gates. Nevertheless, the man follows them home and breaks into the house. It continues to show the mother pampering herself whilst the child slept. The man enters the child's room and with the fear of the unknown the viewer starts to get nervous. Following this, he picks her and the pillow up to find a tooth. What happens next is strange and is left to the viewers interpretation but he grind the tooth up and sniffs it like a line of cocaine. Then he grows wings and fly's away. However, the bit that I liked was the very beginning. The waiting, and the watching. The tense moment of provoking the thoughts of the viewers. I love the ending, the twist.
Night Stalker from New Media Ltd on Vimeo.
This short film is about how a night club is disturbed by some evil genetically modified food. The start when the UV is showing the food being changed, followed by the club and karaoke bar is starting out for the night. The kids sing as the animation of the food is coming to life. Human features are shown on animated molecules. The person walks about as noticed another molecule being eaten by another genetically modified molecule. The person breaks free to discover art figures of her head to which she hugs and rips off. Anyway that 5 minutes into the short film and does not inspire me. However it's the bold colours of the UV that catch my eyes but also around the 8 minute mark her being attacked. Her facial expressions and frantic movements give me inspiration for my movie.
