Inspiration - Dances

Image
This interest grew through different art expressions and I began to fall in love with the art of dance to express a story, such as: Sia: Chandelier. I fell in love with Sia and her way of expressing her music through dance. Elastic Heart, another one of my all time favorites amongst all the uproar it's generated. Her use of a dancer really expresses an art form that portrays an emotional quirky storyline. This unnerving aspect is one I favor highly as the weird feeling you receive whilst watching it is something I am very interested in exploring. My love for dance grew and I stumbled across this one day: Hozier: Take me to Church dance interpretation. This art piece is stunning, both in ability and directions. Notably, the music videos are getting more and more alike in setting, mise-en-scene, sound, and camera shots. The original music video anyway is brilliant in terms telling a story of a deeper political issue (gay hate in Ireland). This has highly inspired me on ho

Inspiration - FishTank Film

I watched a movie called FISHTANK and it was highly inspirational to social realism... The mum was abusive and disinteretsed in anything She lives in a run down low income area  She loves to dance and she uses as a form of escapism and she is contantly running away from home.

Inspiration - Music Video

So I have a massive underlying passion for stories that subvert but have deeper meanings expressed through art forms. They aren't what you expect and confuse the watcher. To begin with, I wanted to do a music video because I am very into deep meaningful lyrics such as for example: Professor Green: Read all about it. His song is about the suicide of his father but you would only know this if you read the lyrics of the rap, it's so powerful to me and this is what i love so much about lyrics and there relation to real life. "Dear dad, As a kid I looked up to you, Only thing was I never saw enough of you. The last thing I said to you was I hated you, I loved you and now it's too late to say to you. Just didn't know what to do or how to deal with it, Even now deep down I'm still livid. To think, I used to blame me, I wondered what I did to you to make you hate me. I wasn't even 5, life's a journey and mine wasn't an easy ride, You nev

Research on Genres: Experimental

Image
I didn't really have an idea as to what genre I was looking into because my storyline is not finalised yet. I think it's going to be a Romantic Mystery but also with elements of thriller and edginess thrown in. I have many ideas, such as maybe making it a short documentary on someone famous, like a kidnapper or making more mystery than thriller. I'm unsure on what I what. So I'm doing some research into short films made by professionals to see what I like best. However an alternative Genre I recently stumbled across was 'experimental'. I've never explored this before so it's interesting to watch some of the work on it. Some short films of this genre: I really like this one, in terms of talking but also how the sounds work with the speech. The different clips put so cleverly together shows how it's someone's work of art. This concept I like, as the edginess and individualism of this piece makes it easy to watch. This again is an interesti

Research on Genres: Social Realism

Image
social realism noun: social realism the realistic depiction in art of contemporary life, as a means of social or political comment. I really like the look of social realistic movies because social realism is an international art movement that encompasses the work of painters, printmakers, photographers and filmmakers who draw attention to the everyday conditions of the working class and the poor. Movies include: I really like this because the story line is very gripping and the colours are dingy like blues and greens. The gypsy like accent emphasises the social conditioning of his current state, but as this genre common portrays he does try to steal and he is off a low income background. I will be using these techniques in my movie.

My research on romance thrillers: On the IMDB website they put the movies into lists of which Genres they fall under. The Sub-Genre of Romance Thrillers has the following: These have some storylines can be linked with mine, such as The Colony, as her boyfriend is abducted. I was thinking of abduction for my storyline. The Odd Thomas as well has a setting of a desert town, as the setting for mine is looking to be an abandoned town. Short Films in this genre, include: I like the beginning shower scene

Here is my research into 'Mystery' films: The IMDB website splits the movies into their most prominent genre, so here was the list for Mystery. Judging by the movies present: Thrillers, Anime and Crime, it could be suggested that mysteries are mainly based around detective movies, where a crime or situation needs to be solved, However mine could have elements of this within in. Short films I've seen to do with mystery include: I love the writing at the beginning with the quote and then

Research on Short Films

My short film idea is based on the concept of  'stalking' and 'obsession'. It's stemmed on the idea of myself wanting to do an interpretive dance music video with a connecting story. I have quite a fixation on serial killers and stalkers which has influenced my thought ideas as I usually connect all my original thoughts to some sort of serial killer obsessive nature. I love dance, it's a form of emotional expression and can communicate very powerful emotions. This is evident in some performances I've watched or music videos I've seen, which is why I love to use it, as I am an artist personally and the expressive art form is important to me as it's the thought provoking artwork that changes and shapes the minds/ emotions of the human. I came across a website called 'Short Film of the Week' and it's collected hundreds of short films globally for viewers to watch. Some that have caught my eye are: This is a movie about a man who turn
