Developing an Idea

Image
So I've spoken to my teacher and come up with some ideas on an experimental piece. I looking at a possessed drama, sort of thing. Unsure yet, but I have an idea for a location, which is an abandoned town in Uxbridge. However, I don't know what my storyline is currently. Looking into dance and art forms of expressive natures I am formulating ideas. Here is a mind map of my planning, its evolving into somthing i didnt expect.

Developing Genre: Social Realism

This is one of my chosen genres out of the ones I looked at, because I really like how the accurate representation of a part of society which isn't generally represented in film. The following video is another example of where social realism is represented but wouldn't be seen by the usual movie crowd. THE LINE from Dark Pictures on Vimeo . This genre is an edgy genre that works well with my artistic concept because I combine narrative with an artistic form of experimental dance.

Developing Genre: Experiemental

The reasoning behind picking this as one of my main genre types is because it's definition: "Experimental film, experimental cinema or avant-garde cinema is a mode of filmmaking that rigorously re-evaluates cinematic conventions and explores non-narrative forms and alternatives to traditional narratives or methods of working. Many experimental films, particularly early ones, relate to arts in other disciplines: painting, dance, literature and poetry, or arise from research and development of new technical resources" As I would like to create a work of art that has minimal text, but the story is explained through dance. This interests me because being an artist myself,  acting isn't really somthing that necessary appeals to my taste espeically when the actors are not professional. However the art of dance to express a story is beautiful and timeless to me. It's more powerful than acting a script. Here is a long explaintion of the genre but theres nothing more...

Inspiration - Ken Loach

Loach says that "The British middle class is obsessed by what they call 'bad' language. Actually, 'bad' language is manipulative language, and they're very happy with that. But the odd oath, like a word that goes back to Chaucer's time, they will ask you to cut. But the manipulative and deceitful language of politics they use themselves." In the same press conference, Loach makes the point that the "working classes are our agents of change", but that "as the economic crisis gets harder, the villification of working people gets more intense by the press in that people, as you see in the film, are seen as feckless, idle, with their hand out for benefits. This is the propaganda we get, so one of the things we wanted to do in the film was to turn that on its head and say no, of course, that isn't the case... If the system that is bringing destruction to us and to our lives has meant that for us to ask for a secure job, a house to live in...

Inspiration - Dances

This interest grew through different art expressions and I began to fall in love with the art of dance to express a story, such as: Sia: Chandelier. I fell in love with Sia and her way of expressing her music through dance. Elastic Heart, another one of my all time favorites amongst all the uproar it's generated. Her use of a dancer really expresses an art form that portrays an emotional quirky storyline. This unnerving aspect is one I favor highly as the weird feeling you receive whilst watching it is something I am very interested in exploring. My love for dance grew and I stumbled across this one day: Hozier: Take me to Church dance interpretation. This art piece is stunning, both in ability and directions. Notably, the music videos are getting more and more alike in setting, mise-en-scene, sound, and camera shots. The original music video anyway is brilliant in terms telling a story of a deeper political issue (gay hate in Ireland). This has highly inspired me on ho...

Inspiration - FishTank Film

Image
I watched a movie called FISHTANK and it was highly inspirational to social realism... The mum was abusive and disinteretsed in anything She lives in a run down low income area  She loves to dance and she uses as a form of escapism and she is contantly running away from home.

Inspiration - Music Video

So I have a massive underlying passion for stories that subvert but have deeper meanings expressed through art forms. They aren't what you expect and confuse the watcher. To begin with, I wanted to do a music video because I am very into deep meaningful lyrics such as for example: Professor Green: Read all about it. His song is about the suicide of his father but you would only know this if you read the lyrics of the rap, it's so powerful to me and this is what i love so much about lyrics and there relation to real life. "Dear dad, As a kid I looked up to you, Only thing was I never saw enough of you. The last thing I said to you was I hated you, I loved you and now it's too late to say to you. Just didn't know what to do or how to deal with it, Even now deep down I'm still livid. To think, I used to blame me, I wondered what I did to you to make you hate me. I wasn't even 5, life's a journey and mine wasn't an easy ride, You nev...
